2024 witnessed some significant SUV launches in India, from Mercedes- AMG G 63 to Porsche Macan EV. As India progresses towards the idea of expanding and developing the Indian Automobile industry, these SUV launches in 2024 boosted the efforts in this direction and have framed down the lines on which India’s future will be written for future generations to come.

Mercedes-Benz launched the AMG G63 facelift at Rs 3.60 Crore (ex-showroom), which is considered one of the significant launches of 2024 in India. It unveiled subtle changes, including mildly altered bumper vertical slats with a dark chrome finish on the radiator grille. The interiors get 12.3-inch screens for the driver’s display and instrumentation, meaning the G-class has a touchscreen for the first time, equipped with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Under the hood, it boasts a 48V mild-hybrid M177 4.0-litre V8 engine that propels 576 bhp and 850 Nm torque. It gets an additional boost from a mild-hybrid system. It has a 9-speed DCT automatic gearbox with paddle shifters. It also gets an optional AMG Active Ride Control. AMG G 63 can push a top speed of 240 km/h and can sprint from 0-100 km/h in 4.3 seconds.

Rolls-Royce launched the Cullinan facelift in India at a starting price of Rs 10.50 Crore (ex-showroom) for its standard version, while its Black Badge version was launched at an ex-showroom price of Rs 12.25 Crore. Officially known as Cullinan Series II, the updated SUV made its global debut in May 2024. It received specific updates like slimmer headlamps, a slightly redesigned grille, and a fresh look on the bumper with a stainless steel skid plate. It also features new wheels.
Inside, it gets a full-width glass panel across the dashboard and a new cabinet in the dash, articulated with a detailed analogue clock and miniaturized, illuminated mascot under it. The Cullinan facelift is powered by a 6.75-litre twin-turbocharged V12 engine that generates 563 bhp and 850 Nm torque on the standard variant and 591 bhp and an impressive 900 Nm torque on the Black Badge variant. Its engine is mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox.

Lamborghini Urus SE

Lamborghini Urus SE made its debut in India in 2024 at Rs 4.57 Crore. A significant change is visible on the front, updated with a bumper and a larger, more aggressive grille assembly. The rear side also boasts a few modifications, such as a new spoiler and tailgate and a contrasting trim connecting the Y-shaped LED tail lights. The dashboard has a three-dimensional look on the inside, and its AC vents have also been revised. It gets a new 12.3-inch, an update from the previous 10.1-inch that supports the latest software and a user interface similar to Revuelto.
With its launch, it is now Lamborghini’s second plug-in-hybrid after the Revuelto. It is familiar with a 4.0-litre, twin-turbocharged V8 turbocharged V8 engine that cranks out 611.5 bhp and 800 Nm torque. The engine has been thoughtfully re-engineered to be coupled with a plug-in hybrid system that utilizes a 25.9 kWh battery pack. Its electric motor is housed within the 8-speed torque converter automatic gearbox, just as Revuelto.
Maserati Grecale

Maserati launched the Grecale SUV in India, with prices starting from 1.31 Crore onwards. It is offered in three variants - GT ( priced at Rs 1.31 Crore (ex-showroom)), Modena ( priced at Rs 1.53 Crore (ex-showroom)) and Trofeo (priced at Rs 2.05 Crore (ex-showroom)). Maserati gets chrome highlights on the grille. It has dual 12-inch screens, 10-way power front seats with memory functions, an optional HUD, and an 8-inch touch-enabled dual-zone climate control system panel.
The Grecale GT and Modena get a mild-hybrid 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine with a mild-hybrid assist, paired to an 8- 8-speed automatic driving all four wheels. It claims acceleration from 0-100 km//h in 5.6 seconds and a 240 km/h top speed.
Porsche Macan EV RWD

Porsche launched two new variants for the Macan EV in India last year, with prices starting from 1.23 Crore (ex-showroom), while it also got a new 4S variant that cost Rs 1.39 Crore (ex-showroom). Its standard variant receives a single, rear-mounted electric motor that pushes 355 bhp and 563 Nm torque, enabling it to sprint from 0- 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds and achieve a top speed of 220 km/h.
The mid-level 4S Macan EV utilizes two electric motors that produce a combined power of 508 bhp and 820 Nm of peak torque. It can go from 0- 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds and has a top speed of 240 km/h. All three trims are equipped with 100kWh battery. Its range-topping Macan Turbo EV offers 591 km on a single charge, the Macan 4S EV offers 606 km on a single charge, while the entry-level model boasts up to 641 km on a single charge.
